Day 1 :Welcome to Baja California Sur!
Today you'll arrive at the airport in San Jose del Cabo (please see INFORMATION page for arrival details and procedures by clicking here) where you will be met by your guides and transferred to Todos Santos and Los Colibris Casitas, about a 90 minute drive. Upon arrival we'll get you get settled into your lovely rooms with spectacular ocean views, then we'll have a welcome gourmet taco dinner at Iker's Colibris Cafe on the grounds of Los Colibris. During dinner your guide will host a trip briefing, outlining the adventures to come. Overnight at Los Colibris with an ocean lullaby.
Day 2: Surfing and Craft Beer! We'll start off this great vacation learning to ride the waves at Los Cerritos, one of the best surf breaks in Baja. Our instructors guarantee that you'll stand up on your board - at least for a moment - during your hour of instruction. It's a total blast! We'll spend the balance of the day just hanging out at the beach, enjoying a beach picnic and relaxing into the bliss that is Baja. This evening we'll head over to the Todos Santos Brewing Company where owners Ted and Liz Mitchell will give us a tour of their craft beer facility. We'll enjoy some of their creations and sample the food menu as well. Salud!
Day 3: Swimming with Sea Lions and Whale Sharks
This is a marine wildlife extravaganza kind of day in which we swim with the largest fish in the world - the whale shark, snorkel with one of the most playful marine mammals in the world - the sea lion, and have lunch on one of the most beautiful desert islands in the world - Isla Espiritu Santo.
We start off visiting the whale sharks – so named because at up to 59 feet and 15 tons they are definitely a whale of a shark – in the shallows of the Bay of La Paz. And while your mother probably told you to stay away from sharks, these gentle giants are only interested in plankton – all human flesh is safe! After the thrill of swimming next to these gentle giants, it’s off to the unbelievable joy of swimming and playing with the sea lion puppies at the permanent sea lion colony of Los Islotes. These fun-loving marine mammals love playing and interacting with humans, and are always disappointed that we can never keep up a game of tag as long as they can. Getting to the sea lion colony is half the fun of the day, as we regularly see dolphins, whales, mantas, sea turtles, coastal birds and more on the way there and back.
We cap off this wonderful day with a delicious picnic lunch at one of the gorgeous beaches on the incomparable Isla Espiritu Santo. It’s an absolutely fabulous day!As it's a long day, this evening we'll just check out one of the local pizza joints, have some beer, and maybe enjoy a game of bocce ball or corn hole. Perfect!
Day 4: Free Day / Mexican Cooking Class Farewell Party
Today is open to do as you like! Birding, horseback riding, shopping, visiting art galleries, getting a massage, laying around the pool reading trashy novels - these things are all options today!
This evening we'll celebrate the trip with a Mexican Cooking Class with Chef Iker Algorri, author of Cooking Adventures in Baja California Sur and chef-in-residence at Los Colibris Casitas. The emphasis is on having as much fun as humanly possible, learning to make the perfect margarita, and gaining the skill to make some truly memorable Mexican dishes following Chef Iker’s cooking philosophy, the Magnificence of Simplicity. You’ll also probably learn about some great Latin music you’ve never heard before. But be warned – dancing often known to follow!
Day 5: Say adios but not good-bye. Transfer to the airport.
