Suzanne Tracht is a celebrated chef and restaurateur known for her acclaimed Los Angeles restaurant, JAR (Just Another Restaurant). Since opening in 2001 with longtime collaborator Chef Preech Narkthong, JAR has become a beloved staple of the city’s dining scene, renowned for its modern take on classic American chophouse fare—most notably Tracht’s signature pot roast. Dubbed “The Queen of Meat,” she is a pioneer among female chefs in a traditionally male-dominated industry.
A Phoenix native, Tracht began her culinary career as an apprentice at the Arizona Biltmore before honing her skills at top California kitchens, including Campanile and Jozu. Her work has earned national acclaim, including Food & Wine’s Best New Chefs honor in 2002 and regular praise from critics like Jonathan Gold. JAR remains a fixture on “best of” lists and is featured in publications such as Bon Appétit, Los Angeles Times, and Eater.
Beyond the kitchen, Tracht is a dedicated philanthropist and advocate for culinary education, supporting organizations like No Kid Hungry and the James Beard Foundation. She has appeared on Top Chef Masters, The Today Show, and Food Network, and lives in Los Angeles with her family, balancing restaurant life with swimming, biking, and spending time with her two children.
