You will be warmly welcomed with “Akwaba”, a traditional Ghanaian greeting that signifies the warm hospitality Ghana is known for.  Journey to Kumasi, the cultural heartland of the Ashanti Kingdom.  Participate in a traditional festival, deeply rooted in Ashanti culture which honors ancestors and the kingdoms unity and power.  Participate in a Living Heritage Naming Ceremony, that is a symbolic event that connects us to our cultural and ancestral heritage.  You will be given a Ghanaian name based on the Akan naming system .  Visit the Assin Manso Slave River, a poignant site here enslaved Africans took their final baths before being transported away from their native land.  Engage in a community service activity by visiting a local school, where we have an opportunity to interact with students and teachers.  Tours of two castles that offer a a chance to confront the past and the complex history of slavery and colonialism.  Visit a fair-trade organization that supports women artisans through sustainable entrepreneurship and creative self-expression.  Participate in a hands-on culinary workshop led by expert cooks to explore Ghanaian cuisine.
