Ashland, Oregon Stop
On the way to and from Sacramento, CA and Sisters, Oregon, we will stop in Ashland, Oregon to rest. Surrounded by breathtaking scenery, majestic mountains, rushing rivers, rolling foothills and dramatic landscapes, Ashland is a gorgeous little city with an arts scene as vibrant as its setting. Ashland hosts festivals for all seasons, with the most notable being the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. On our stop in Ashland, we will enjoy all that this amazing little city has to offer - including an evening at the celebrated Oregon Shakespeare Festival! We will be staying in the beautiful Stratford Inn - each room has two queen beds and will be shared by two travelers. This will be an amazing start (and end) to the fabulous week in Sisters, Oregon!
The Show
The Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show™ (SOQS) is internationally recognized as the world’s largest outdoor quilt show displaying more than 1300 quilts representing fiber artists from around the world. More than 10,000 visitors from all 50 states and multiple foreign countries flock to Sisters on the second Saturday in July.
Master quilt makers teach classes and workshops during Quilt Week and exhibit their quilts at our annual Quilt Show. In addition, hundreds of quilts are displayed in our “show-and-tell” exhibits—first-time quilters, youth, and quilts made by men—throughout the town of Sisters. Quilt exhibitors range in age from 10 to 92 years old, and quilts on display come to us from all over the world.
Many of the quilts on display can be purchased with a portion of the proceeds supporting SOQS, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, which produces the annual free Quilt Show and fiber arts activities year-round.
This American art and tradition of quilting enriches and enhances the cultural legacy SOQS created and grew in Central Oregon. When it started 47 years ago, there was one quilt shop in Sisters. Central Oregon now boasts a half-dozen shops and a dozen active quilt guilds. SOQS events and activities are a year-round bucket list mecca for quilters and appreciators of fiber arts.
The Resort
Gorgeous vacation condominiums and homes, award-winning dining with unforgettable views, and endless recreation await. Throughout our 1800 acres visitors find a wealth of activities to occupy their leisure hours, from playing two premier championship golf courses to working on their tennis game with a pro, from swimming in one of our five pools to fly-fishing in our private lake—and that’s just the beginning. Guests may also go horseback riding, unwind with relaxing spa treatments, lose themselves on 18 miles of paved biking and hiking trails, or experience the lake from a different angle with canoeing, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding.
With no less than seven of the Cascade’s high mountain peaks, stands of towering Ponderosa pines, whispering groves of Aspens, and abundant wildlife, Black Butte Ranch’s setting is pristine. The unhurried, relaxed lifestyle creates an ideal environment to reconnect and unwind. It’s a place where you can set your own pace, explore a world of recreation, and revel in an authentic Oregon experience.
Welcome to Black Butte Ranch!
The Stay
Artful Travel has rented a beautiful four-bedroom, 2.5-bath house with access to all of the Black Butte Ranch Resort recreation activities!
With 4 bedrooms and a den, it will sleep 12. It has a very private feel, located on a large 1.5 acre lot. (After all, a “getaway vacation' should be just that.) But it is also located near many of the best Glaze Meadow amenities. Our home fronts the Glaze Meadow 12th fairway; there are two tennis courts across the street as well as a new neighborhood pool; and the Glaze Meadow Rec Center/large pool is just a short bike ride/walk away.
Our home is designed as a comfortable vacation home. With exposed beams and an abundance of Brookswood paneling, the home has the feel of a cozy mountain retreat. To take advantage of the contour of the property, the home is configured on 3 levels:
- There is a bathroom and two master bedrooms (with queen beds and individual sink/vanities) on the upper level.
- The main level offers a spacious living room including a wood stove, a fully equipped kitchen, a ½ bath and a den with hideabed. There is also an eating area with a table that will seat 12 and, for quick dining, there is counter seating with 3 barstools.
- The lower level offers another bathroom with shower, a utility room with oversized washer/dryer and 2 bunkrooms, each with two bunk beds. Families will enjoy the privacy afforded by the fact that the master bedrooms and bunkrooms are two levels apart!
We have a newly installed two level deck which offers pleasurable viewing of the 12th fairway. There is a gas barbeque, picnic table and numerous lawn chairs for lounging or outdoor dining.
