You can view this phenomenon in Jamaica's Luminous Lagoon, a place where the waters glow in bright tones of phosphorescent blue when you swim, or the boats sail through its waters. Take a boat ride and swim in this lagoon for a gleaming good time! You'll be transferred to the port where a small boat has been waiting for you. Before you sail along Luminous Lagoon, enjoy a complimentary welcome rum punch! Then, you'll board your boat to set sail and your knowledgeable guide will tell you everything you need to know about how the lagoon glows in beautiful blue and green hues thanks to tiny microorganisms called dinoflagellates. They emit a phosphorescent light when disturbed by fish or people swimming near them. It's a spectacular sight because you can see their outlines become visible in the water. The lagoon also becomes hauntingly beautiful when it rains, as the drops of water dance on the colorful surface. Although swimming is optional, it's highly recommended because it allows you to experience this natural phenomenon on your own terms and really feel it first-hand. The Luminous Lagoon water is only 5 feet deep, allowing you to move freely and watch the tiny harmless creatures light up blue-green. Following your energizing swim adventure in the illuminated waters, your boat will take you back to shore. There will be live entertainment — a mini show during which you can buy a Red Stripe beer or another libation of your choice. When the show comes to an end, an air-conditioned vehicle will take you back to your resort.
