ARRIVE IN ACCRA, GHANA
ACCRA CITY TOUR, ARTS CENTER & MAKOLA MARKET
Sightseeing tour of Accra, the Capital of Ghana.
Visit the Arts Center, where participants can sharpen their bargaining skills to shop for goods from Ghana and West Africa in an open-air market. On display, you will see fabrics of different materials, designs, colors and textures to purchase from.
Visit to Makola Market, one of Accra’s busiest and most colourful markets. This lively marketplace offers a vibrant array of sights, sounds, and smells, with vendors selling everything from fresh fruits and vegetables to traditional fabrics, jewellery, and handmade crafts. As you explore the bustling stalls, you’ll get an authentic sense of local life and culture, interacting with friendly traders and discovering unique items that reflect the rich heritage of Ghana.
ACCRA AT LEISURE / NIGHT CRAWL
Embark on a tour of the infamous Forts, Castles, and Slave Dungeons of Ghana. History will unfold the story of the slave trade which the impact is still felt beyond the shores of Africa today.
Visit the Cape Coast Castle built by the Swedes in 1653 and was later taken over by the British.
Day 5: GLOBAL MAMAS HEADWRAPPING – ACCRA
Learn the cultural history and technical wonders of African head wrapping. Head wrapping has been a part of African culture for centuries and are worn by men and women with pride.
Day 6: LIVING HERITAGE CEREMONY (TORGORME VILLAGE) – CEDI BEADS
The group will participate in a naming ceremony of recognition, where a Ghanaian name is given to participants, and a gift presented as part of celebrating a new identity as a Ghanaian and a member of the local community.
Day 7: GHANAIAN LOCAL CUSINE COOKING CLASS
You will be introduced to an array of new tastes and flavours as you learn how to create authentic Ghanaian dishes. Using African cooking techniques, during this workshop you will create traditional dishes. After learning the recipes, you will enjoy eating the feast you’ve helped to prepare.
