A valid passport is required for all AmaWaterways related travel, and it must be valid for at least 6 months after your return. All guests are required to have at least six to ten empty visa labeled pages (depending on itinerary) in their passport for travel to Africa, enough to accommodate several stamps and any required visas. It is the guest’s responsibility to ensure that your passport is valid and contains any necessary visas and empty pages.
In the event you lose your documents while traveling, we recommend that you photocopy the first pages of your passport, airline tickets, driver’s license and/or birth certificate to expedite the replacement process. Keep the originals separate from the photocopies. Another option is to scan or take a photo of your passport, airline tickets and credit card numbers and email them to yourself as attachments.
Please remember to fill out the “Emergency Next of Kin” section in your passport (in pencil).
IMPORTANT: New UK Electronic Travel Authorization Requirement
As of January 8, 2025, the United Kingdom requires certain travelers to obtain an ETA to enter or transit through the UK. However, airside transit does not require a UK ETA. If you are simply connecting flights at a UK airport and remaining airside (not passing through UK border control), you do not need to apply for a UK ETA.
Who Does Need a UK ETA?
You will need to apply for a UK ETA if:
Checking Your Flight Details
We recommend confirming your flight itinerary with your airline to verify whether you will remain airside during your transit.
If you do need to apply for a UK ETA, applications can be completed via the UK ETA app (available on the App Store and Google Play) or the official UK ETA website.
Important Reminder
For guests planning to enter the UK or transit landside, we strongly recommend applying for a UK ETA well in advance. Guests without the required documentation may be denied boarding their flights.
If you have any questions about your travel requirements or need assistance, please contact your travel advisor.
