The Journey Center Internship Program gives university students hands-on experience in community engagement, nonprofit strategy, community outreach, and international development.

Interns live and serve in JTDM host countries while building real-world skills in education, marketing, data research, social impact, and more. Each internship is tailored to the student’s field of study and personal calling. Currently only the Ghana, W. Africa site is accepting assignments.
 

 

 Program Overview 

Ghana W. Africa:

The Journey To Compassion Internship is a unique international service-learning opportunity currently offered in Ghana, West Africa (with additional countries to be announced soon). This program is designed for university students (as well as select high school students when accepted), recent graduates, and community-focused individuals seeking hands-on experience in global education, community development and engagement, and cultural immersion.

Interns will choose from three specialized tracks:

  1. Education Track – For students majoring in education or related fields, focusing on classroom support, curriculum enrichment, and literacy development.

  2. S.T.E.M. Track – For students majoring in science, technology, engineering, or math, offering opportunities to assist in STEM-based workshops and mentoring.

  3. General Service Track – Open to all majors, with emphasis on general community service, outreach, and capacity building.

Interns will collaborate with Journey To Destiny Ministries’ leadership team on a variety of impactful projects, including the development and marketing of this global internship initiative. Participants will also serve with local volunteer organizations, experience cultural excursions/tourism, and grow both educationally and professionally through mentorship, volunteer-based service, and involvement in local organizations and schools.

 

Program Tracts:
  • Education Majors Track
Objective: Experience International and Global primary and secondary education system; develop cross-cultural teaching skills
 
Internship Site: Local Schools
 

Activities

    • classroom assistance under a local teacher mentor

    • Lesson planning and small group tutoring
    • Literacy program facilitation
    • Organizing student activities (arts, sports, leadership workshops
 

 

  • S.T.E.M. Majors Track 

    Objective: Gain international volunteer experience and community development exposure. 

    Internship Site: Partner with Universities and other Vocational Schools

     

    Activities

    • Assist in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) tutoring
    • Help set up mini labs, tech training, or basic engineering projects
    • Math clubs and robotics workshops for local students
     
    • All Majors Track (Including High School Students)

      Objective: Support the development of STEM education in underserved communities. 

      Internship Site: Various NGO's, Local Schools, Journey Centers, Orphanages and Youth Centers

       

      Activities

      • General community service

      • Youth leadership programs

      • Health awareness campaigns

      • After-school tutoring


 

What's not included:

  1. Flights not included

  2. Lunch and dinner are on students

  3. Travel insurance required (we provide recommendations)

  4. Visa Not included but required in Ghana ONLY

  5. Yellow Fever shot Not included but required in Ghana ONLY

  6. Breakfast Included in program

Payment Schedule
Payment Schedule will be given up acceptance into the program.
 

Cancellation policy:

Note: All Initial deposits are non-refundable. $350 USD deposit is included in the overall price it is not an additional cost. 
Standard Cancellation Policy
All Deposits are Non-Refundable. All other fees will be refunded in full up to a 90-days prior to departure date according.  50% will be refunded up to a 45 -day notice prior to departure and no refunds up to a 30-day notice.
