Budapest | RST Pre-Tour 

We’re excited to share early details for our Budapest Pre-Tour before we board the AmaVerde for our Royal Christmas River Cruise.

Thanksgiving falls on Thursday, November 25, 2027, so we’re planning to depart for Budapest on Friday, November 26, 2027, arriving later that day or early on Saturday, November 27.

This schedule will give us two wonderful days in Budapest — November 27 and 28 — to explore, unwind, and soak in the city’s holiday charm before embarkation on Monday, November 29, 2027.

This is a Save-the-Date only. Full details, pricing, and registration for the pre-tour will be announced later.

Getting to the Port
Your journey begins in the heart of Budapest, one of Europe’s most beautiful capital cities. The AmaVerde will be docked along the Pest side of the Danube River at the Mahart International Passenger Port, located between the Elizabeth Bridge (Erzsébet híd) and the Liberty Bridge (Szabadság híd).
The exact dock number will be confirmed in your final travel documents approximately 30 days before departure.

Driving Time from Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD):
Approximately 25–30 minutes, depending on traffic.

If you are arriving independently, we recommend allowing ample time for customs, luggage collection, and transfer to the port.

Embarkation Process
Upon arrival at the pier, you’ll be greeted by AmaWaterways and Royal Splendor Travel staff who will assist with luggage and check-in.
You’ll need to present:
Your passport, Travel documents (issued by Royal Splendor Travel), Proof of travel insurance and credit card.

AmaWaterways will issue your shipboard ID card and take your photo for security purposes.

Boarding Window
Staterooms are typically ready by 3:00 p.m., but you’re welcome to relax in the lounge or enjoy light refreshments onboard if you arrive earlier.

If you are participating in the Royal Splendor Pre-Cruise Extension, transfers will be arranged directly from your hotel to the port on embarkation day.

Late Arrivals
If you are delayed en route to Budapest, please contact Royal Splendor Travel immediately at (866) 212-9983so we can alert the ship’s reception desk. The AmaVerde remains docked overnight in Budapest before setting sail, providing a comfortable buffer for late arrivals.

Home to several UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the Buda Castle quarter in Castle Hill and Heroes' Square, Budapest offers an unmatched combination of culture and tradition. Today, you have the opportunity to visit both the Buda (hilly) sides of the Danube River. Follow your guide through the city’s Castle District, where you will marvel at the fairytale turrets of Fisherman’s Bastion, gaze upon the breathtaking panorama below, and see Matthias Church, renowned for its striking tower and colorful mosaic roof. You will also visit the city’s famed Christmas Markets. For a more active tour, hike to Budapest’s Castle Hill

Wed, Dec 1st, Vienna, Austria

The “City of Waltzes” offers a treasure trove of gems just waiting to be discovered. Join a tour showcasing its regal splendors, such as the majestic Opera House and the former Imperial Palace of the Habsburgs, and have an opportunity to visit the city’s Christmas Markets. If you prefer a more active adventure, you can join a guided bike tour along the Danube River. In the afternoon, visit Schönbrunn Palace Christmas Market and its spectacular festive atmosphere.

Thur, Dec 2nd, Melk, Austria

High on a rocky outcrop lies the Melk Abbey, one of Europe’s most revered Baroque monasteries. Visit this magnificent and storied abbey, which now houses a museum chronicling its history and a famous library with countless medieval manuscripts. Alternatively, go on a guided bike ride around Melk. During the evening, enjoy a scenic cruise through the Strudengau Valley.

Thur,  Dec 2nd, Srudengau Valley, Austria

As we sail from Melk, relax on the Sun Deck or in the lounge and take in the serene beauty of the Strudengau Valley. Once known for its swirling currents and narrow passages, this quiet stretch of the Danube now offers peaceful views of rolling hills, forested slopes, and riverside villages that seem untouched by time.

Keep your camera ready, the Strudengau is pure storybook Austria, especially when the church steeples and castles glow against the winter sky.

Our beloved Cruisin’ Cuties will be gathering for a cozy get-together during the Royal Christmas River Cruise!

We’re planning a relaxed Tea or Coffee Social where everyone can unwind, laugh, and share a little sparkle together while sailing the Danube.

It’s the perfect time to connect with fellow Royals, snap a few photos, and enjoy a warm drink while watching Europe’s winter magic drift by.

The exact date and time will be announced closer to our cruise.

 

Fri, Dec 3rd, Passau, Germany

 Join a walking tour of this 2,000-year-old city, noted for its Gothic and Italian Baroque architecture and St. Stephen’s. Go in search of Bavarian-style crafts at the Christmas Market. Or, for the active adventurer, join a guided bike tour along the Danube. Alternatively, you can travel through the serene Austrian Alps to Salzburg, birthplace of Mozart. Your full-day excursion in Salzburg includes a walking tour of the UNESCO-designated Old Town, its magnificent cathedral and its Christmas Markets.

Sat, Dec 4th, Regensburg, Germany

Regensburg is one of Germany’s best-preserved medieval cities, as well as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Join a guided walking tour showcasing the city’s architectural highlights, including the Old Town Hall and the Porta Praetoria, before visiting the Old Town Christmas Market. As an alternate option, sample some of Bavaria’s specialties—beer, sausage and pretzels. Or bike to the base of Walhalla where there is a neoclassical white marble temple inspired by the Parthenon in Athens. For those in a festive mood, head to one of Bavaria’s most beautiful and romantic Christmas Markets at Thurn and Taxis, where you can watch artisans make their unique arts and crafts.

Join a city tour of WWII highlights and then walk through Nuremberg’s cobblestone streets to the Imperial Castle and 900-year-old city ramparts, followed by a visit to Nuremberg’s Christkindlesmarkt, one of the world’s largest and most famous Christmas Markets. You can also choose to spend the entire morning exploring this iconic Christmas Market. For those looking for a taste of Nuremberg, depart for Nuremberg Imperial Castle and visit City Brewery, where you will delight your palate with savory Nuremberg sausage and beer. Then continue to Sebalder Kirche (church), where you will nibble on sweet-and-spicy lebkuchen, a baked treat similar to gingerbread. End the day crossing the Continental Divide via the Main-Danube Canal.

Ship Access

    The ship features an elevator connecting only the Violin and Cello Decks. The lower Piano Deck is accessible by stairs.

    The Sun Deck, where you’ll find the walking track and seating areas, is also accessible by stairs.

    Due to European port design, gangways may be steep or uneven depending on river levels and docking locations.

Stateroom Accessibility
