The Great Migration is the annual cycle of movement made by over 2 million wildebeest, 250,000 zebras, and 400,000 Thomson gazelles in their continuous search for water and green pastures throughout the Serengeti ecosystem. Every year, the ungulates follow a fairly predictable migration route however the timing of the movement varies from year to year depending on rain patterns, from the vast Serengeti plains to the hills of Kenya’s Masai Mara.
The Great Wildebeest Migration is astonishing. Each year, more than 1.5 million wildebeest trek from the Serengeti to the Masai Mara and back again in search of fresh grazing. Their crossing of the Mara River is the climax of this odyssey, a spectacle filled with drama, death, and endeavor and one of Tanzania Wildebeest Migration Safari.
The high drama of a river crossing at the Mara River is arguably the highlight of the Wildebeest Migration, a stunning life-and-death display as hundreds of thousands of wildebeest brave the treacherous currents and lurking crocodiles in a last-ditch attempt to reach the safety of the Maasai Mara in Kenya.

Meals Included: none
Accommodations: African Tulip~~The African Tulip Hotel is a luxury boutique hotel located in Arusha, Tanzania. It offers elegant accommodations, fine dining options, a swimming pool, and spa services. The hotel is known for its beautiful gardens and excellent service.
Day 2 and 3: Cultural Tour in Maasai Village
After breakfast, you will be briefed about your trip to Tanzania about dos and don’ts. Drive to West Kilimanjaro where you will be staying for two nights. Maasai People operate the original Maasai Lodge, the facility is designed traditionally.
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Accommodations: Africa Amini Lodge
During your two nights, you will choose and experience the following activities.
SPEAR THROWING COMPETITION AGAINST THE MAASAI
Traditional spear-throwing competitions are deep-rooted in the Maasai culture. They were not only important for Maasai warriors to compete with each other but also served as training for hunting lions. Nowadays, the lions are protected and the Maasai don’t hunt them anymore. Spear-throwing competitions are now merely athletic events. Try your luck and compete with the best of the best!
NATURE WALK WITH THE MAASAI
Accompanied by a Maasai shaman you will have the chance to discover the surrounding areas. Meet the locals of Ngabobo who will share their extensive knowledge of herbs and medicinal plants and introduce you to the Maasai culture, which has stayed unchanged for centuries. Close to the lodge, you will have a chance to pick these medicinal plants yourself and might even prepare your tea with them. It will be a very special teatime, for you and the Locals.
DONKEY RIDE WITH THE MAASAI
The typical tourist attraction in Tanzania is a safari on foot or by car. In many places, horse rides are offered as an alternative. But how about something new? Why not try a ride on the back of a donkey at sunrise? It’s the best way to enjoy the serenity of the savannah and the beautiful view of Kilimanjaro. With a bit of luck, you might even experience the early morning hustle and bustle of the African savannah. We especially recommend the donkey ride for families with children.
Day 4: Tarangire National Park
Head off for Tarangire National Park, where ancient baobab trees tower over some of the largest herds of elephants in all of Africa. Keep a lookout for the hundreds of bird species Tarangire is known for—and dramatic interactions between predator and prey at the park’s watering holes. Arrive for lunch and proceed with an evening game drive.
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Accommodations: Tarangire Balloon Camp
Day Five: Full-Day Game Drive
After breakfast depart for a full-day game drive in Tarangire. Spend the day exploring Tarangire on game drives. Tarangire’s grassy plains are dotted with massive baobab trees and are home to a high concentration of area wildlife. Elephants are especially abundant here, with some herds numbering up to 300 strong. Due to its low volume of visitors, the reserve offers a serene and intimate wildlife-viewing experience. Seek out large herds of zebras, giraffes, and wildebeest, as well as the skulking leopards and cheetahs that prey on them. The park is also home to around 550 species of birds, including dazzling Yellow-collared lovebirds and the world’s largest avian species, the stocking-thighed ostrich.
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Accommodations: Marera Valley Lodge
Marera Valley Lodge is a luxury safari lodge located in the heart of the Marera Valley in Tanzania. The lodge offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape and provides guests with a unique opportunity to experience the natural beauty of the area.
Day Six: Majestic Serengeti
On this day drive through Ngorongoro highlands towards Serengeti, stop at the crater rim viewpoint to see the magnificent world's largest crater, and Delve into the story of human origins at the Olduvai Gorge Museum and Visitor's Center, located near the site where the National Geographic archaeologists Louis and Mary Leakey discovered early hominid fossils and stone tools. Visit Shifting Sand Dunes (Optional), it’s estimated that these shifting dunes have been wandering the savannah for 3 million years. The sand is remarkably dark, especially in comparison with the soil surrounding the dunes. This is because it is highly magnetized volcanic ash, which explains why the particles tend to fall back on the dunes instead of being blown away by the wind. After lunch, continue to the world-famous Serengeti National Park and go on a safari across the wild Serengeti Plain, keeping an eye out for galloping giraffes and lounging lions; then settle into our tented camp under the setting sun.
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Accommodations: Into Wild Camp
Day Seven: North Serengeti following the migration
In the morning, we undertake our en-route game drive to the Northern region of the Serengeti. Stretching from Seronera for about 100km, the Northern Serengeti is a gentle rolling countryside broken by small rivers, occasional hills, and kopjes. Here resides a multitudinous permanent population of wildlife, with also very striking geological occurrences such as the beautiful Lobo Kopje. The Northern Serengeti is an interesting and varied country that is far from the park's main entry point in the south hence receiving fewer visitors. The migration is found in this area during August and we may with luck witness the most spectacular of river crossings as the herd attempt to cross the Mara River and avoid the strong currents and hungry crocodiles. After a full day, we head for our accommodation where we enjoy dinner and our night of sleep under the magnificent African sky out upon the 'Endless Plain.
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Accommodations: Mara Heritage Camp
Day Eight: North Serengeti – Full Day Game drive
After an early breakfast, you will head out to make the most of the day. There is a chance you may see the animals crossing the Mara River. Hundreds of thousands of desperate wildebeest gather together on the banks of the river, gazing wistfully across the turbulent water at the green grass on the other side but no animal will make a move. All it takes is one brave wildebeest to take the literal plunge and, then, all follow! The animals that do successfully avoid the awaiting crocodile jaws and make it over the river are rewarded with the lush green grazing grass of the Masai Mara.
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Accommodations: Mara Heritage Camp
Day Nine: Northern Serengeti to Central Serengeti
After breakfast, you will return to Seronera with further opportunities to experience the incredible wildlife and natural beauty of the Serengeti. Apart from the migrating herds, we may have the opportunity to see the resident predators, leopard, cheetah, and lion, fulfilling their role in the circle of life. After an extensive game drive, we head for our Accommodation for a hearty dinner and another night by the fire of relaxation and conversation under the sweeping majesty of the star-bright African night out upon the 'Endless Plain.
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Accommodations: Into Wild Camp
Day 10: Ngorongoro Crater
After breakfast depart with an en-route game drive towards Ngorongoro Conservation Area, arrive for the early morning game drive, and late in the day enjoy lunch on the crater floor while looking at the hippo pool. The Ngorongoro volcanic crater is the largest Unfolded and unbroken caldera in the world. About 20kms across, 600 meters deep, and 300 sq km in area, you begin to pick out the familiar shapes of elephant and buffalo on the crater floor, mingled with zebras, wildebeest, and gazelles. It is also one of Africa’s greatest concentrations of big predators lions, leopards, and hyenas are regularly seen, and you may see flamingos and hippos in the Crater’s lakes. After this fascinating tour drive to Karatu town to enjoy your evening.
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Accommodations: Marera Valley Lodge
Day 11: Fly Back to the USA
After breakfast, drive to Arusha, upon arrival, you will be transferred to Arusha Coffee Lodge. After lunch, you will be driven to Kia Planet Lodge for your day room use and then in the evening, you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight back to the United States.
