Get ready to set sail on the most luxurious National Pilates Day celebration yet. For our third annual event, we’re taking wellness to the water — a 5-day transformational cruise from Miami to the breathtaking shores of Turks and Caicos aboard the stunning Virgin Voyages.
Eshael M. Johnson, M.S., is a classically trained Pilates, GYROTONIC and Buff Bones Teacher and owner of Ischyra Soma Fitness Pilates & Wellness Center in Crofton MD.
Eshael’s love of all things athletic began while watching Super Bowl III with her father. Eshael gravitated early to dance but dropped it to pursue basketball and later cheerleading, both pre-collegiate and semi-professional. Later in life she found Pilates. It helped her to move with the grace she had before her knee injury; it reunited her mind with her body as she regained ease of movement, developed muscle, and strengthened her core. Eshael is convinced that Pilates can lead to “better living through strength and grace”TM and infuses that philosophy into her teaching.
Eshael has also also served as a Board Member for the Pilates Method Alliance [PMA] through it's transition during the Pandemic for several years. The knowledge she brings to the table of Pilates behind the scenes and in the forefront is a valuable asset to every Black Women Who Does Pilates she touches.
Every May, the world celebrates Pilates Month, with the first Saturday known as National Pilates Day — a global tribute to this powerful practice that strengthens the body, sharpens the mind, and reconnects us to our core.
But in our community, it means more.
It’s a time to pause, reclaim our power, and remind ourselves that Black women deserve softness, strength, and space to simply be.
Virgin Voyages redefines cruising with adults-only luxury, award-winning design, and a vibe that's equal parts relaxation and elevation.
This is your permission slip to indulge in:
All-inclusive wellness experiences — from meditation to massages
Chic, sustainably designed suites with ocean views
World-class dining by Michelin-starred chefs
Nightlife that speaks to your grown-woman spirit
A ship culture that celebrates authenticity and adventure
This isn’t your mama’s cruise.
It’s a floating sanctuary where Black women come to exhale.

Let’s be clear — Black women are often the backbone of everyone else’s life, but who shows up for us?
This cruise is a call to normalize nurturing ourselves — without guilt, without apology.
We’ll move through Pilates flows designed for the melanated body, indulge in sacred rest, and create space for sisterhood and celebration.

For the past two years, Paula Marie, founder of Black Girls Do Pilates 2, has created sacred spaces where Black women gather to move, heal, and elevate — blending Pilates with purpose, presence, and plenty of joy.
From the bubbling bliss of Balian Springs Spa to the sunset celebration at National Harbor for our book launch weekend in (2024), Paula Marie — creator of Black Girls Do Pilates 2 — has cultivated a powerful space where wellness meets joy, and self-care becomes a lifestyle.
In 2025, we turned up the vibe with our most spirited celebration yet at Woodlawn Press Winery. This wasn’t just a Pilates class — it was a full-body experience. We flowed through grounding Pilates movements, followed by joyful, feet-stomping line dance to “Boots on the Ground”. Attendees participated in a curated wine tasting that awakened the senses and reminded us that pleasure is part of the wellness journey too.
Then, we closed the day with a chromatherapy workshop — because community care can look like core work, a glass of red, and a rhythm that moves through your soul in technicolor.
Every month since, we’ve kept the momentum alive through unforgettable workshops like:
✨ Karaoke Pilates – where core work meets your favorite 90s R&B
✨ Afro Pilates – centering breath, beats, and Black joy
✨ Self-Massage Sundays – to release tension and return to softness
✨ Men’s Health Month Pilates (June) – honoring Black men with movement and healing too
Now, for our third year, we’re raising the bar — and the anchor — for a luxurious, movement-filled cruise that honors all the healing and happiness we’ve built along the way.
