Upon arrival at Accra International Airport, proceed through immigration and collect your luggage. After clearing customs, you will be met by our local representative, who will be holding a sign bearing your name and our company logo. Following breakfast, depart to visit the Nkyinkyim Museum near Ada Foah, located on the estuary of the Volta River.

■  Ada Tour Make a detour to visit Ada Salt mines near Sege. This offers you the opportunity to see salt mining and interact with the local folks. Continue to Nkyinkyim Museum. Arrive and tour the Sculpture Museum and interact with the staff. Nkyinkyim translated in English to mean “twisted” and relates to a proverb that says, “Life’s journey is twisted.” The project is a means of commemorating the millions of people from Africa who were kidnapped, imprisoned and coerced into slavery. The site of the installation was a stopping-point on the slave trade route in the 16th and 17th centuries, first for the Dutch and then by the British traders. The majority of the slaves transported to Virginia. Among the Akan people of West Africa, funeral tradition dating back to at least the 17th century, Sculptors, often women create clay busts which are displayed in cemeteries in order to preserve the memory and the likeness of the dead. Ghanaian artist Kwame Akoto-Bamfo draws on this mode for this ongoing installations, Nkyinkyim which is comprised of more than 1,300 cement effigies embedded in a field in Nuhalenya Ada, a town outside Accra. Whereas traditional faces usually wear a calm expression, Mr. Akoto-Bamfo’s heads show fear, sadness, disgust or surprise. The sculptures depict young and old, male and female, as well as members of different tribes.

Following breakfast, depart for the Central Region, driving along the coast past several fishing villages and coconut-lined beaches. Upon arrival in Cape Coast, proceed to visit Cape Coast Castle.

In the afternoon, continue on to visit Elmina Castle.

■  Cape Coast Castle Originally started by the Swedes in 1652. It served as the headquarters and seat of the British colonial government until 1877. ■  Elmina Castle The Elmina Castle another UNESCO World Heritage Monument the oldest and largest European structure built in sub Saharan Africa. This was built by the Portuguese in1482 and later used as an auction market for enslaved Africans for a comprehensive guided tour. See the slave dungeons and condemned cells where slaves who resisted were incarcerated and starved to death.

■  Bisa Aberwa Museum One of Africa's most respected filmmakers which exists among other objectives, to provide an opportunity for the preservation and promotion of the Africa heritage; provide an institution for research into African history and “provide a platform for the conversation among people of African descent. On display at Bisa Aberwa is how the African humanity has survived. You will listen to the African story.” The specimens on display are about personalities whose sacrifices have shaped African history, both within the continent and the diaspora. They capture events within the slave dungeons in Africa, the toils of the Africans on the slave plantations and highlights of the Civil Rights Movement culminating in the election of the first African American as president of the United States of America.

Following breakfast, Depart to Accra with a stop at Assin Manso to visit the burial site of the remains of two ancestors exhumed from New York’s Wall Street & Kingston Jamaica and re-interred on the Emancipation Day 1998. A third ancestor was also brought and interred by the Prime Minister of Barbados in November 2019 as part of the “YEAR OF RETURN” GHANA 2019. Visit the DONKO NSUO (the Slave River) where the African captives were allowed to take their last bath in waters of their native land. The European merchants branded their bodies for identification before they were marched to the Dungeons in Elmina and Cape Coast. This offers you opportunity to send a message to your ancestors in a bone fire.

■  Assin Manso Assin Manso serves as the final resting place for the remains of two formerly enslaved Africans, repatriated from Wall Street in New York and Kingston, Jamaica, and re-interred on Emancipation Day in 1998. A visit includes the poignant “Enslaved African River,” where captives took their last bath before the harrowing journey to the coast for shipment into slavery.

■  Donkor Nsuo The Slave River, where the African captives were allowed to take their last bath in the waters of their native land. The European merchants branded their bodies for identification before they were marched to the Dungeons in Elmina and Cape Coast. Following breakfast, depart to Aburi Botanical Gardens in the Eastern Region. Drive atop the meandering Akwuapim Ridge overlooking the plains of Accra and Tema Metropolises. Stop at a vantage point to photographs and taste fresh Palm Wine.

After the visit, continue to the Aburi Wood carving Village and market. See craftsmen carving various souvenir items. This offers you opportunity to purchase souvenirs for families, friends and loved ones back home.

Later, Continue to visit Asenema Waterfall

After the tour, return to your hotel in Accra. The rest of the day is at leisure.

■  Aburi Botanical Gardens The Aburi Botanical Gardens was established in 1890 as a convalescent for the British Colonial Officers governing the then Gold Coast now Ghana and relax under the shade of huge trees, some of which has are over 100 years old. The Aburi Botanical Gardens were designed for scientific research and pleasure. It is a habitat for plants from all over the world. Over the years the Garden has cultured a variety of tropical plants which attract many birds and butterflies. Go on a conducted tour of its many herbs and well- manicured lawns

■  Asenema Waterfall Asenema Waterfall is one of the hidden gems in the rainforest of the Akuapem Hills, outside of Accra, and north of Aburi. Asenema is just 15 minutes from Akropong and just a 5-minute walk from the main road along a marked trail. Asenema waterfall feeds a lively little stream nearby. The falls usually have a very good flow in the rainy season. The drive to get to the falls is wonderfully scenic, with beautiful views across the rolling hills that are so typical of the region.

Following breakfast, set off on a full-day city tour of Accra, which will offer practical lessons in Pan Africanism and the African Struggle.

■  Accra Full Day City Tour Your first visit is the W.E.B. Du Bois Centre for Pan Africanism; this is the final burial place and home of the prominent American Pan Africanist Dr. W.E.B. Du Bois, who led the Pan-African congress between 1919 and 1927. It is currently a Pan African Center for culture and it also has a research library and gallery full of manuscripts.
Continue to the National Museum of History and Ethnography. This Museum houses a varied collection of Ghanaian artifacts. Objects in the archaeology section range from the Stone Age period to the recent historical past. Those on permanent exhibition at the ethnography gallery include chief’s regalia, indigenous Ghanaian musical instruments, gold weights, beads, traditional textiles, stools and pottery. Depart to Ga Mashie-Old Accra, this is a contrast of Victorian Dutch and post-colonial architecture. You will drive past James Fort built in 1673, Old Accra Square and the Post Office.
Drive past Ussher Fort, one of three European forts in Accra which have survived the times. Ussher Fort was built by the Dutch in 1649 as Fort Crèvecœur. Fort Crèvecœur was part of the Dutch Gold Coast. The Anglo-Dutch Gold Coast Treaty (1867), which defined areas of influence on the Gold Coast and was transferred to the British in 1868. Interact with the local people at the Accra Harbour, view the light House built by the British to guide commercial ships into the Accra Harbour.

After lunch, visit the newly refurbished Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and Mausoleum. This is a Memorial and Third burial grounds for the First Head of State and President of independent Ghana. The Mausoleum site was the Old Polo grounds for the European during the colonial period until 1957. This Mausoleum has been visited by many world dignitaries. Your last stop for the day is the Arts and Crafts market to view a varied collection Ghanaian handicraft souvenir. This offers you opportunity to try out your bargaining skills on the local vendors and to “shop till you drop”.

Today, you will visit the Ushafa Pottery village, also known as the Bill Clinton village, to witness the making of local pots. You will have an opportunity to interact with the locals to understand the Gwari way of life. From Ushafa, you will return to town for lunch.
In the afternoon, you will visit the National Mosque for sightseeing and photos before visiting the Millennium Par,k and thereafter driving through Abuja metropolis before your return to your hotel.

Nigeria is a diverse and vibrant country located in West Africa, known for its rich cultures, languages, and history. It is the most populous nation in Africa and home to hundreds of ethnic groups, including the Hausa, Yoruba, and Igbo. ENTRY & EXIT REQUIREMENTS FOR US CITIZENS:
U.S. citizens traveling to Nigeria must have a valid U.S. passport with at least six months’ validity remaining and obtain a Nigerian visa in advance, as visas are required for entry. Proof of yellow fever vaccination (and polio vaccination in some cases) is required upon arrival. Travelers must enter Nigeria legally with proper documentation and retain their entry stamp, as it is required to exit the country. Overstaying a visa can result in significant fines before departure, and dual U.S-Nigerian citizens are required to use a valid Nigerian passport to leave Nigeria.

■  Gurara Village Drive to Gurara village, a 62.13 miles drive from Abuja city along the Suleja-Minna road. On your way to Gurara, you will have a brief stop over at Zuma Rock, 34.17 miles north of Abuja near the town of Suleja. It is a paler version of Australia’s Ayers Rock, and it is believed to have the shape of a human face standing beside the road. The Zuma Rock is 300m high and a mile long, with sheer cliffs on all sides. The Zuma rock area is geographically referred to as the centre of Nigeria.
At the Gurara village, you will be treated to a cultural experience of the Gbagyi (Gwari) tribe, a unique set of people scattered in Niger, Kogi, Nassarawa and Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory. You’ll spend some time with the villagers, immersing yourselves in their cultures and participating in cooking lunch with them.
You will continue to savour the freshness of the Gurara falls and the surrounding calm and solitude that the cities lack. You will play around the falls and swim, take a walk and play some volleyball before getting set to depart. An hour’s picnic will do you a lot of good before leaving Gurara back to the city. It will be a straight drive back to the hotel to retire for the day.

Today, you will start the day with a visit to a Fulani village and interact with the village head (chief). From the Fulani village, you will visit the Arts & Crafts village for souvenir shopping. From the arts market, you will visit the Nike Art Gallery before proceeding to the Discovery Museum, a modern tech-enabled display of Nigeria’s culture, history, and evolution as a nation, before proceeding for lunch
After lunch, you’ll drive around the three arms zone housing the Aso Rock Presidential complex, the National Assembly, and the Supreme Court. You will visit the Musée des Civilisations Noires, which opened in December 2018, and is the realisation of the vision of Léopold Sédar Senghor (the first president of independent Senegal, intellectual, poet, and writer). The museum represents the historical and contemporary cultures of the African diaspora around the world, the art and soul of black people, which he called Negritude. You will also visit the Cathédrale Notre Dame. The construction project of the Dakar cathedral was started in 1910 to pay tribute to African combatants; the cathedral was built on a Muslim cemetery in the Neo-Sudanese style, a style inspired by the architecture of mosques in the Sahara and Sub-Saharan Africa, and consecrated on 2 February 1936.

You will continue to the African Renaissance Monument, an imposing 49-metre-high bronze statue overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Discover its significance as a symbol of African unity and progress while enjoying breathtaking panoramic views of Dakar.

Graffiti in Dakar has become an important form of artistic and social expression, evolving from a spontaneous movement to a recognized discipline. Since the 1980s, graffiti art has been a tool for communication and change.

You will also find out the ‘Village des Arts’, consisting of 72 artists' ateliers. All disciplines of visual art are represented here (painting, sculpture, ceramics, photography, video installations, etc.). The Village is really the best place to meet the well-known artists, but also the young talents of the Senegalese scene.

The market is truly a unique experience. Founded in 1860, it is not only a commercial centre but also a cultural landmark of the city. Its colonial architecture, with its brightly coloured façade, is striking at first glance and represents an excellent fusion of history and modern life. Inside, the market is a riot of colours, sounds and smells.
The market offers a glimpse of everyday Senegalese life, with people moving around and haggling with each other, making a visit not only an option for shopping but also an opportunity to immerse oneself in the local culture. It is a place that tells stories and traditions, not to be missed by anyone visiting Dakar.

You will take the ferry to Gorèe and spend the afternoon on the island where slaves were imprisoned before being shipped to the Americas. Some buildings remain as evidence of those times. The Portuguese were the first to establish a presence on Gorée in 1450, where they built a small stone chapel. After the decline of the slave trade, the island became an important port for shipping peanuts, gum arabic, ivory and other trading products. Thanks to the pleasant breeze and several restaurants and shops, Gorée today has become a pleasant and fashionable place. In the afternoon, you will come back to Dakar.
