After you have collected your luggage a representative will be there to collect the group and transport you from the airport to Freetown. The calming and scenic view boat ride to Freetown is very welcoming.

Ashobie - Aso ebi (Yoruba), sometimes spelled as Asoebi in Nigeria and Ashobie in Sierra Leone and The Gambia, is a uniform dress or dressing code/style that is traditionally worn by Yorubas and then some other African cultures as an indicator of cooperation, camaraderie and solidarity during ceremonies, events and festivals.
After breakfast we will depart for a sightseeing tour of the Capital City Freetown. We will drive through Hill Station and make our way to downtown Freetown. This 230-year-old city has the perfect blend of important historical markers, modern and colonial era architecture, and culture. The guided walking tour will allow you to see sites such as the infamous Cotton Tree, King Jimmy slave port, both National and the Peace Museums. The Keke tour will conclude by giving you a chance to use your bargaining skills to shop at the Big Market for souvenirs made in Salone and other parts of West Africa. After the KeKe tour we will have lunch downtown (not included in price). Immediately following lunch, the tour will continue by visiting the Sierra Leone National Museum and the Peace Museum. The tour will conclude visiting one of the oldest universities in Western Africa.
In the evening we will have a small meet and greet over dinner where you will enjoy some of Sierra Leone’s staple foods and have an official welcome to Sierra Leone. You will have an opportunity to meet with local Americans residing in Freetown, and other people who will play a big part in your tour.
We will head to Aberdeen Water Terminal Ferry to embark on a journey that you will not forget. We will visit the infamous Bunce Island Castle fortified in 1670 by English settlers. Bunce Island was the largest British slave castle on the West Coast of Africa. You will learn about the strong ties to America because of the rice cultivation skills of the native Sierra Leoneans, they were in high demand in South Carolina and Georgia. We will conclude with a lunch at Tasso and then return to Freetown.
Bunce Island has been called "one of the most important historic sites in Africa for the United States of America" because of the thousands of human beings forcibly shipped from the island to ports across the American South.
The purpose of this tour is to remember and honor the countless victims who took their final footsteps in their homeland.
In the evening we will put on our dancing shoes and hit Aberdeen Beach to enjoy ourselves.
Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary
After breakfast we will take transportation to Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary.
Tacugama is a chimpanzee sanctuary that rescues injured and orphan chimpanzees. It is a must-see tourist stop when arriving in Sierra Leone.
We will continue the rest of our day at the beach. No. 2 River Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches within the Freetown, peninsula. The beautiful natural beach is managed by the local community. We will have lunch at the beach.
We will have an early breakfast and head to the village of Kunsho in the town of Makeni. Makeni is known as the economic hub of Sierra Leone. We will partake in cultural activities and participate in a community activity. Traveling with a purpose – you will have an opportunity to have a cultural exchange/experience that you will not forget.
After breakfast we will travel to important communities within Sierra Leone. Our first stop will be Waterloo to have a better understanding of the “Bai Bureh slave tax war”. The next stop is Tombo which is a fishing community. Then Kent and York which played a vital role during slavery and after slavery.
We have a relaxing lunch by the beach of Tokeh. If you choose you can swim or just enjoy the scenery.
In the evening we will dress in our ashobie and have our final dinner together.
