Begin by exploring Accra, the century-old capital of Ghana, this morning. Kick off the day with a visit to the DuBois Centre for Pan-African culture, once the residence of Dr. Dubois. Then, embark on a drive or walking tour of the colonial area of Accra, Jamestown. Cruise along the main street of the colonial district and observe the Ussher and James Forts, constructed by the Dutch (1650) and British (1673) respectively, along with the historic Light House that guided ships to Accra Harbour during colonial times. Tour the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and museum, a tribute to Ghana's first post-independence President. Explore the Independence Arch before visiting Osu Christiansborg Castle. Next, witness the skilled craftsmen in Nungua creating imaginative coffins shaped like vegetables, fruits, cars, and more, often reflecting the occupation of the deceased - for instance, a fisherman may be laid to rest in a coffin resembling a large fish.
