Join us on a grand adventure through one of the most historically rich regions of the world

 
From hot air balloon rides over the fairy chimneys, to visiting the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul, and everywhere in between, we will explore the rich historical and cultural heritage this ancient land has to showcase. Along the way we will visit undergound cave cities, Gobekli Tepe which dates back to 9600-8200 BC, and Mount Nemrut from the Commagene people dated around the 1st century BC. We will share meals with locals, participate in a baklava making class in the city where this sweet treat originated, and visit Avanos known as the center of terracotta work since 3000 BC. A sunset private boat charter along the Bosphorus which separates Europe from Asia right through the center of Istanbul will be a highlight for certain.

Itinerary:

  • Day 1 Arrival Cappadocia  Welcome to Turkey!

After arriving in Istanbul continue to domestic gates and take the flight from Istanbul to Cappadocia. Arrival at the airport and meeting just outside the arrival’s gate with a sign bearing your name with your driver. Transfer to the hotel in Cappadocia.

Please note your overseas flight ticket should be purchased from your home airport to arrive in Cappadocia. Flights will have a stopover in Istanbul.

 Please make every effort to arrange your flight schedule so that we are all on the same leg from Istanbul to Cappadocia so that we can be on the same group transfer aranged for us. If your flights deviate greatly, private transfer service can be arranged at an additional cost.

 Dinner at hotel included.

 
  • Day 2Hot Air Balloon followed by a full day of touring
Pick up from hotel around 04:00-05:00 (according to the season) and drive to balloon take off place. Take the balloon flight and after the flight you will have your certificate and return to hotel around 07:00-08:00 (according to the season).

 Refresh and relax a little and ready for your day tour. 

 Meeting at the hotel reception at 11:00am

After breakfast, first meeting with the lunar landscape of Cappadocia: rock formations beyond belief in Devrent valley; walking in Pasabag near Zelve ; "fairy chimneys" where the voice of wind mixes with the "songs of fairies".

 Lunch in Avanos, centre of terra cotta work of art since 3000 BC. and a demonstration in a traditional pottery workshop. (lunch not included)

 Afternoon, visit the famous Goreme Open Air Museum and see the best examples of Byzantine art in Cappadocia in rock-cut churches with frescoes and paintings (10th to 13th century). Continue to Uchisar to have a panoramic view of the valleys of Cappadocia.

  • Day 3: Pigeon Valley, Undergound City, Sinasos, and a traditional lunch with a Turkish Family

Meeting at the hotel reception at 10:00am Start the day with Pigeon Valley. Then tour to Özkonak or Kaymaklı Underground City, one of the most interesting underground settlements in Cappadocia.

Visit to Mustafapaşa (Sinasos), an old Greek town with its spectacular old houses; very fine examples of late Greek settlements and architecture.

For lunch, we are invited to a real village house to join a Turkish family. We’ll collect the ingredients from their garden and we will participate in cooking of the delicious Turkish meals. We are going to have lunch by sitting together with the family in a traditional Turkish fashion.

After lunch, a walk thru a beautiful hidden valley near the village. there may be an optional stop to see an art and handicraft center of Cappadocia. 

Overnight Cappadocia.

In the evening go to a Turkish Night entertainment place to watch belly dance dinner show.

  • Day 4: Cappadocia to Gaziantep
Meeting at the hotel reception at 11:00am 

Drive to Gaziantep. After arriving in Gaziantep and check in to the hotel.

Day at leisure (Guide will lead the group to the city center and give them free time).

  • Day 5: Gaziantep Mosaic Museum and afternoon Baklava making class
Meeting at the hotel reception at 10:00am 
First visit the world famous Gaziantep Mosaic Museum. This museum exhibit superb mosaic discovered at the Roman site of Belkıs-Zeugma before the Birecik Dam flooded most of the site.
Afternoon go to a local baklava producer to have baklava making class.
Plenty of free time to shop and enjoy the city on your own.

  • Day 6: Gobekli Tepe and other sights on the way to Sanliurfa
Meeting at the hotel reception at 09:00am
Drive to Sanliurfa.
We will drive to visit Gobeklitepe, a hilltop sanctuary erected on the highest point of an elongated mountain ridge some 15 km northeast of the town of Urfa. What makes Gobeklitepe unique in its class is the date it was built, which is roughly twelve thousand years ago, circa 10,500 BC.
Afternoon will also visit the holy sites at Balıklıgöl, a lake with millions of domesticated fish.
While in Urfa we will visit the cave where the prophet Abraham was born.

  •  Day 7: Haran, Walking tour  of the bazaar, and dinner with a local family
 We will visit nearby Harran and see the incredible beehive houses. Harran- according to the Bible-was the site where prophet Abraham spent a few years with his family before moving on to Israel, the Promised Land.

There are exceptional photo opportunities in this area.

 Afternoon city walking through the local covered bazaar of Sanliurfa.

 Overnight Sanliurfa.

 Dinner with local family.

  • Day 8: Mount Nemrut
Meeting at the hotel reception at 09:00am
We hike to the summit of the mount Nemrut (one of the most popular UNESCO world cultural heritage sites), watching the sunset, be amazed by the colossal heads and statues of ancient deities, as you step into mythology. This extraordinary landmark rests at an elevation of 7000 ft. The mountain top complex is composed of two flattened areas strewn with statues and separated by a false peak of crushed rock.
 
Antiochus built the entire complex approximately 2000 years ago as a monument to his divine ancestry.

THE HIKE UP THE MOUNTAIN IS WEATHER PERMITTING. SHOULD THE WEATHER NOT COOPERATE, AN ALTERNATIVE TOUR OPTION IS AVAILABLE TO THE GROUP.
 
Please note this is a challenging walk. While it is paved, the path up consists of many stairs to reach the top. For anyone not feeling up to the hike up, you are welcome to wait below with our driver.

  • Day 9: Flight to Istanbul and Private boat charter of the Bosphorus

Transfer to Adiyaman airport to take the flight to Istanbul. Arrival in Istanbul and meeting at the airport, transfer to the hotel, check- in.

Board your private cruise of the Bosphorus, the waterway, which separates the continents of Europe and Asia. Pass Rumeli fortress, built by Mehmet the Conqueror in 1452 to prepare for his conquest of Istanbul.

  • Day 10: Old Istanbul Tour

Start the day with the Blue Mosque, built for Sultan Ahmet I, which is a unique piece of architecture with its six minarets and features 20,000 beautiful Iznik tiles. Visit the ancient Hippodrome with Obelisk of Theodosius, Snake Pillar and German Fountain of Wilhelm II. Walk through the back streets of Old Istanbul and visit the Yerebatan underground Cistern.

If time allows, we will see the Grand Covered Bazaar (except Sundays) or visit The St. (Haghia) Sophia, which was built by the Emperor Justinian. It was the largest building in the world for over 1000 years. See its intricate mosaics and huge central dome.

  • Day 11: Panoramic Istanbul Tour

Meeting at the hotel reception at 10:00am

Visit the exotic Egyptian Spice Market on the Golden Horn.

Cross over the Bosphorus Bridge to Asia and visit Beylerbeyi Palace, which was the summer residence of the Ottoman Sultans, then on to Camlica Hill (Radio Tower) for a magnificent view of Istanbul.

  • Day 12: Transfer to the airport for departure
 

 We hope you have enjoyed your time with us in Turkey! Sadly, today you will depart for home. The driver will transfer us to the airport for departure.

Please try to align your departure flight with that of the group to take advantage of the group transfer.

Terms & Conditions

The purchase of any tours or services offered by Euphrates Tours (hereinafter “ET") constitutes a contractual arrangement between you and ET, and represents your acceptance of the ET Terms & Conditions set out herein. Please ensure that you read carefully and understand these Terms & Conditions prior to booking.

Please ensure guests have full travel insurance in place. This policy must provide for medicalcare, delays in travel arrangements etc.

Deposit & Final Payment:

A non-refundable, non-transferable deposit of 30% per land vacation is required to confirm reservation. Your booking is not confirmed until the deposit is received by ET. Your payment is not deemed made until it is received by ET. Please review and verify your booking thoroughly and contact ET immediately if it appears to be incorrect or incomplete, as it may not be possible to make changes later. Final payment is due 60 days prior to commencement of services. Payment of the deposit indicates you have read and accepted these Terms and Conditions.

If final payment is not received by the due date, your reservation will be cancelled. Payment in full is required at time of booking for reservations made within the final payment date of your vacation (within 60 days of departure).

ET makes no provision for travel to or from Turkey. It is the responsibility of the traveller to make their own arrangements.

Cancellations & Cancellation Fees

If cancellation is received by ET before the final payment date of your vacation please see below the terms of cancellation fees:

Standard Cancellation Fees:

Up to 60 days prior to commencement of services: 30% of total price

Within 60 days prior to commencement of services: 100% of total price

Accommodation

Hotel arrangements are provided as described in each tour program. ET reserves the right to substitute hotels for accommodations in similar categories. 

Meals

Meals are provided as specified in each tour program.

Participants who have special dietary requirements must advise ET at time of booking.

Visits / Attractions

ET reserves the right to substitute visits/attractions and other features when establishments are closed or cannot be visited for reasons beyond our control.

On certain dates including, but not limited to religious holidays and national celebrations, some monuments and sites may be closed. On these occasions, touring itineraries may be amended to reflect these closures. Occasionally, during holidays and certain periods, and/or due to unforeseen circumstances including weather conditions there may be last-minute changes, sometimes after arrival in Ireland, affecting the sequence of the tour and locations visited. In such cases there will be no cost adjustment.

National monuments and tourist sites regularly undergo renovations, which can obscure the monument's view. No tour will be cancelled due to renovations and in such cases, there will be no cost adjustment. However, ET will decide based on the conditions whether to amend an itinerary.

Visa’s & Passports

ET is not responsible for any incidental expenses that the passenger may have incurred as a result of their booking including but not limited to visas, vaccinations, travel insurance excess or non-refundable flights. ET cannot accept liability for any passenger refused entry to Turkey.

Please Note

ET accepts no responsibility for losses or expenses due to delay or changes in schedules, flight cancellations or misconnections due to mechanical problems, sickness, quarantine, weather, acts of God, strikes, government actions, war, terrorism or other circumstances beyond its control. Participants must bear all such losses or expenses. To guard against unforeseen circumstances, we insist you travel with a comprehensive travel insurance which must be purchased before travelling. This policy must include medical cover at all times.
