Arrival to Ghana & Welcome Dinner

 

Welcome to Ghana! Your adventure starts today as you step foot in Kotoka International airport.  A private shuttle will take the group to the hotel in no time. Once settled, have the rest of the afternoon to decompress. In the evening, we’ll enjoy a scrumptious dinner at a local restaurant as we go over the tour briefing. Your Ghana escapade is about to begin!

Day 2

 

AfroFuture Festival, Day 1

 

Your morning will start off with getting your measurements taken. After breakfast, a local tailor/seamstress will come to the hotel to ensure the correct measurements for your bespoke Ghanaian garments.

Day 4

 

Exploring Historic Kumasi

 

Today we’ll head to Kumasi for a day trip (one hour flight), the long-lost capital of the powerful Ashanti kingdom. The second largest city in the country still drips with Ashanti traditions.

 

Once in Kumasi, we’ll explore the traditions that still linger below the surface. The day starts with a visit to the traditional Adinkra village. Here, you’ll enjoy an authentic Kente weaving and stamp printing experience, followed by a tour at a local cocoa farm where we’ll get to know how these beans became the best-quality cocoa in the world.

 

Want to get even deeper into the local culture? You’ll have the chance to attend your own Asante naming ceremony where the elders will give you a soul and a spirit name.

 

After the ceremony, you will catch your return flight to Accra, Ghana.

Day 5

 

Touring Historic Accra • NYE

 

Your Ghana adventure begins with a visit to Accra, Ghana’s bustling capital. We’ll start the day by touring the city’s beating heart, going to the local markets bursting with new smells, tastes and colors. To get even closer to Ghanaian culture, we’ll have the chance to enjoy an authentic Ghanaian drumming lesson at the art center. Feel these ancestral rhythms and enjoy an in-depth look at what makes this people unique.

Our tour will take us to WEB DUBOIS memorial museum, the Black Star National Square and the Independence Arch, all built by Ghana’s first democratic government. As we walk across these spaces, we’ll get to know part of the country’s convoluted political past. Take a break by eating at a local restaurant full of mouthwatering dishes: it’s the best way to relax and enjoy the city!

 

As tonight will be New Year's Eve, we will go out on the town and party at one of Accra's hottest venues. Bring in the new year the Ghanaian way! (The bus will have one collective drop-off and pick-up time.)

Day 6

 

Slave River • Elmina Dungeon • Cape Coast Dungeon

(3 hour drive from Accra, Ghana) 

 

Get knee-deep into Ghana’s slavery past by stepping on the path of thousands of the enslaved captives. Our journey begins in Donkor Nsuo, or slave river, where prisoners had the chance to bathe before a three-week naked trek through the dense forest. 

 

 Then we'll visit the Elmina Slave Dungeon and Cape Coast Dungeon, in the bowels of the dungeon. Listen to first-hand accounts of the country’s grueling slavery route and go up to the Door of Return, the last frontier between the dungeons and the huge slave ships waiting on the port. Afterwards, we’ll make our way back to Accra where you’ll have the time to dine and relax.

Day 7

 

Free Day • Departure Dinner

 

Today is your day for rest and relaxation. You may choose to sleep in, and head to the spa in the afternoon. Or get up early, and head straight to the beach. However you choose to spend your day is up to you...enjoy!

 

Tonight, having received your custom-made Ghanaian garments, you will attend a departure dinner in your new attire.

Day 8

 

Departure from Ghana

 

The sun is setting on your Ghanaian adventure. Today, you will enjoy a filling breakfast, check out from the hotel, and head to the airport. You will depart from Ghana and make your way back home.

Travel Notes:

• Age restrictions-you must be 21 years of age to attend this trip.
• You must provide proof of “Travelers Insurance”.
• You must be vaccinated against Covid-19 and show proof before entry to Ghana.
• The Yellow Fever Vaccine is required for entry into Ghana.
• Passengers are responsible for ensuring that they have the proper travel documents and MUST CHECK with the respective consulate(s) or visa agency to determine whether any visas or passports are required. Some countries require a full blank “VISA” page in the passport for stamping purposes. Any information provided on travel description pertains to US citizens only. Non-US citizens should check with the respective consulate of the country(s) to be visited for current entry requirements. 
• Reservations must be made in your FULL NAME as it appears on your passport.
• Traveling abroad requires a passport valid for six months beyond travel dates.  For this tour, your passport should not expire before July 25^th, 2024.
• Monthly payments are required to keep your reservations current unless you make larger payments than what is required of your monthly payment plan.  Your invoice will clearly note your payment plan. We suggest you put this payment plan on your personal calendar.
• Roommate Matching is available but not guaranteed.  I will make every attempt to match you. If matching is not available, the single supplement of $1100 will be added.  You will be matched with a roommate once you have paid more than 75% of the balance of your travel reservations and provided the person you will be matched with also paid 75% of his/her balance. 
• Name changes are allowed with a $250 name change fee up until the final payment.  After final payment date, no changes are allowed.
• All late payment requests must be approved by management before the final payment deadline on your invoice.

 

Refund Policy:

• Deposit is non-refundable.
• Trip refundable (excluding deposit) 90% until June 1, 2023. After 6/15/23, refunds will need to be obtained through your travel insurance (be sure to add the option, “Cancel for any reason”).

 

Late Payments:

• All late payment requests must be approved by management.
• Final payment will be accessed a $250 fee automatically.
