Welcome to the West African Health Foundation trip to Ghana.

On this fundraising journey, you’ll take sightseeing tours of Accra and Kumasi City, visit local markets, and revisit the slave past at Assin Manso and Elmina Castle.

Then fly to Kumasi City to volunteer at the WAHF Health Fair. You’ll have a unique opportunity to observe the important work that WAHF is doing in the region, namely the establishment of the Hospital of Excellence in Juaben.

You’ll enjoy delicious local cuisine at your welcome dinner on an iconic rooftop, daily breakfasts, and several tasty lunches and dinners, culminating in an elegant farewell dinner that celebrates Ghanaian culture and cuisine.

Approximately 15% of your donation may be tax deductible. The final amount will be determined once the trip has concluded.

The West African Health Foundation (WAHF) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization formed in New York on February 17, 2001 by a group of physicians who were concerned with the poor health and nutritional status of the people, particularly children and women of the West Africa sub-region.

The West African Health Foundation seeks to establish a Hospital of Excellence located in Juaben, a town near Kumasi which is the second largest city of Ghana. The first phase of this Hospital is the construction of the Eye Institute which was started in December 2019.  

WAHF is making steady progress in the construction of the Eye Institute and as of now tiling of the entire facility is just about to be completed.

There is more to be done but we are very excited because our vision of providing excellent eye care to treat conditions that cause blindness in the underserved communities of Ghana is close to realization.

Ghana Itinerary

• Day 0 | Wed, July 30 | Depart home, board an international flight, and travel to Ghana. 
• Day 1 | Thu, July 31 | Arrive in Accra and transit through customs, then transfer to your host hotel. 
• Day 2 | Fri, Aug 1 | Accra city tour and markets, meet your dressmaker for a custom outfit, then welcome dinner at Skybar 25. 
• Day 3 | Sat, Aug 2 | Visit Assin Manso Slave River and Elmina Castle, alternate optional activities, or enjoy a day of leisure. 
• Day 4 | Sun, Aug 3 | Fly to Kumasi City, tour local craft villages, plus Kente-stamping workshop, then check in at your host hotel. 
• Day 5 | Mon, Aug 4 | City tour of Kumasi City, followed by an afternoon free to indulge in your pursuits. 
• Day 6 | Tue, Aug 5 | Volunteer at the health fair, a delicious local lunch, followed by a private tour of the Eye Institute construction site. 
• Day 7 | Wed, Aug 6 | Fly to Accra, meet your dressmaker for the final fitting, then farewell dinner with renowned Chef Ruby. 
• Day 8 | Thu Aug 7 | Depart Accra with fond farewells. Bon voyage!
