AlterHERed Shift is a 5-week, hybrid training program designed for clinical social workers and mental health practitioners committed to disrupting harm and transforming care for Black women.
This training invites participants to go beyond performative inclusion or cultural competency and into a deep reckoning with history, bias, and liberatory clinical practice. This is a training that doesn't just inform, it transforms.
At the heart of this work is a concept you will come to know and embody:
A spiritual and cognitive compass developed by returning to ancestral knowledge and using it to guide ethical, liberatory, clinical practice.
Through historical context, radical analysis, and heart-centered guidance, you will begin to align your clinical practice with your highest values of equity, justice, and healing.
Despite decades of awareness, the clinical mental health field continues to:
Misdiagnose, under-serve, and retraumatize Black women
Operate within Eurocentric frameworks that erase lived experience
Uphold systems that pathologize resistance and cultural expression
This training is not a checkbox. It's a re-orientation, a return to right relationship with the communities we serve. It is the internal shift required to dismantle systemic harm from the inside out.
By the end of this training, participants will:
Analyze the historical roots of racial disparities in Black women’s mental health
Critique the social work profession's failures in addressing structural oppression
Reflect on their role in systemic harm and begin accountability practices
Integrate DEIPAR(Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Intersectionality, Anti-Racism, Power) and culturally rooted tools into clinical care
Design an action plan rooted in ancestral wisdom, justice, and ethical practice

🌍 Return to the roots. Practice with clarity. Lead with Sankompass.

Dr. Mirissa Jackson is a licensed clinical social worker, trauma therapist, and the founder of Relief with Rissa LLC, a healing-centered mental health practice dedicated to the liberation and well-being of Black women. With over a decade of experience in the mental health field and eight years specializing in trauma recovery, Dr. Jackson brings both clinical expertise and deep cultural fluency to every room she enters.
Certified in multiple trauma-focused modalities, including TF-CBT, Brainspotting (BSP), and as a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional Level II (CCTP-II), she has supported countless women in navigating the effects of complex trauma, generational pain, and systemic harm.
AlterHERed Shift is not just a training, it’s a movement, rooted in years of evidence-based research, clinical experience, and lived truth. After working closely with Black women clients and seeing the systemic gaps, misdiagnoses, and harm repeatedly reinforced by well-meaning providers, Dr. Jackson recognized a sobering truth:
The mental health field is not equipped to truly serve Black women.
What began as a collection of reflections and notes from sessions and case studies, grew into a two-year research initiative that drew from historical, sociological, clinical, and spiritual frameworks. The result is a first-of-its-kind, immersive training designed to recondition clinicians, not just re-educate them.
AlterHERed Shift fuses DEIPAR principles, transformative and adult learning theory, and a new concept coined by Dr. Jackson herself,
🧭 Sankompass™: A spiritual and cognitive compass formed by returning to ancestral knowledge to guide ethical, liberatory, clinical practice.
Dr. Jackson’s qualifications aren’t just in her degrees and certifications, they’re in her lived experience as a Black woman, her hands-on work with trauma survivors, and her radical commitment to liberation and justice in every clinical space.
She is known for:
Cultivating trauma-informed and culturally attuned spaces
Coaching clinicians through unlearning harmful diagnostic and documentation norms
Designing clinical tools tailored for equity, dignity, and transformation
Her work lives at the intersection of healing and revolution.
When she’s not shifting systems and holding space for deep healing, Dr. Jackson is:
✈️ Traveling the world to understand how mental health affects different regions.
📚 Loves to read self- development and romance books.
🥂 Brunching with her girls and talking about purpose, joy, and healing
🤣 Laughing from the belly because healing doesn’t mean being heavy
Dr. Jackson doesn’t just lead this training, she embodies it. And she invites you to do the same.
“Healing isn’t always pretty, easy, or fun, but it’s sacred. This training is a thank you to those doing the sacred work of becoming better, for themselves and for those they serve.” — Dr. Mirissa Jackson
